1) The 50mm Summicron-R's near-focus range may be extended by using Elpro 2-element achromat lenses attached via the Summicron's filter threads. For the first version, Elpro VIa or VIb are used, and for the 2nd version, Elpro 1 or Elpro 2 are used. The 14256 Macro-Adapter-R, the 3-part extension ring set or the Leica Bellows-R may also be used, and at medium and small apertures the lens performs well in the extreme close-up range.

2) The 3rd metering cam required for the Leica R3 and later cameras was installed at the factory beginning with s/n 2758826.

3) Front cap # 14163 fits over reversed lens hood #12564.
