A moderate wide-angle lens of modest maximum aperture, this lens is small and lightweight and modesrate cost. The 35mm Elmarit-R was first produced in 1964 for the original Leicaflex camera, by E. Leitz, Wetzlar, Germany. This lens exhibits good but not stellar imaging performance. Flare will be evident when strong light sources are within the field of view. The optical design was re-computed for the second and third versions; these lenses show outstanding performance and are among the best bargains among Leica reflex lenses.
